For the love of the game

About

Bryan Couture was a beloved and iconic figure in the Squamish community, a man whose fingerprints are on so much of what makes this town feel like home, including his instrumental role in establishing the annual Squamish Days Loggers Sport Festival.

Bryan was also a devoted champion of pickleball in Squamish. As one of the original players who set out to bring this new and invigorating sport to our region, he helped lay the very foundation our community plays on today. His generosity showed up again and again: benches, nets, and countless improvements to our courts and our club, all quietly given. Ever the court gentleman, Bryan encouraged, coached, advocated, and supported every early initiative that helped our sport take root here.

Bryan passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026, from complications of Parkinson’s disease, following two years of exceptional care at Hilltop House in Squamish.

His genial nature, dry wit, and wry smile are dearly missed by all who knew him.

In his honour, Pickleball Squamish is proud to host the “For The Love Of The Game” tournament, a day of friendly competition and reflection, and an opportunity to raise funds for Parkinson Society British Columbia.
