Current Opportunities
Development & Events Coordinator
Temporary, part-time, 21 hours/week, with the possibility of transitioning to a permanent position
$50,000-$55,000/year, pro-rated

About the Role:
Reporting to the Director, Development, Parkinson Society British Columbia (PSBC) is seeking a Development and Events Coordinator to work closely with the Director of Development on third-party events and to support the execution of our flagship event, Parkinson SuperWalk. The Development and Events Coordinator supports and executes a calendar of fundraising and third-party events for PSBC. Organizing and facilitating our signature event and supporting third-party events will be an integral part of the role.
This position will be part time at 21 hours per week. While most staff primarily work remotely, the nature of events necessitate this as a hybrid position and in-office work will be required under the direction of the Director, Development.
About Parkinson SuperWalk:
For over 30 years, Parkinson SuperWalk has been the single most important awareness and fundraising event for Parkinson Society British Columbia. Over 20 communities and 2,000 walkers across the province participate in this event to raise money for research, support services, education, and advocacy.
The successful candidate must also be available on Saturday, September 6 & Sunday, September 7 to support Parkinson SuperWalk event(s).

Since 1969, Parkinson Society British Columbia has served to support British Columbians affected by Parkinson’s disease. Our mission is to: Empower the Parkinson’s community in British Columbia through providing resources and services to enable self-management, self-reliance, and self-advocacy.
The Society is a non-profit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. We are supported by donations from individuals, members, corporations, foundations, and the dedicated efforts of volunteers.
Our office is conveniently located downtown Vancouver at 1021 West Hastings St., 9th Floor.
The ideal candidate will have some experience in event planning and an interest in the not-for profit or healthcare sector. He/she/they must be able to keep track of, and manage, a large volume of tasks and quickly changing priorities. Strong attention to detail, exemplary problem-solving skills, and strict record keeping is imperative.
Duties of the Development and Events Coordinator:
For Parkinson SuperWalk, the individual will assist with all event logistics as required including:
- Soliciting local businesses for in-kind donations
- Tracking in-kind donations at applicable walk locations to ensure recognition on appropriate signage
- Preparing recognition materials, such as certificates
- Organizing, packing, and mailing materials to communities taking part in Parkinson SuperWalk, including Vancouver
- Updating SuperWalk materials for 2025, based on templates produced in previous years
- Answering and assisting with inquiries through our help line, including registration and donation issues via our website
- Maintaining up-to-date inventory of materials utilized for Parkinson SuperWalk and independent fundraising events
- Updating social media to assist in the promotion of fundraisers
For Independent Fundraising Events, the individual will assist with:
- Coordinating, tracking, and distributing special event kits and promotional materials
- Liaising, coordinating and assisting with event details, as needed
- Attending fundraising events to assist with on-site tasks, as needed
- Performing event administration, including developing plans, critical paths, meeting minutes, report updates, and communications with community organizers
- Engaging and reaching out to supporters to drive event participation and fundraising efforts.
- Obtaining proposals or quotes and negotiating best prices, delivery rates, and timelines for events.
- Supporting all third-party fundraising events, including those by community organizations and signature events.
- Attending events as necessary, and problem-solving to ensure seamless event delivery.
- Responding to inquiries and guiding third-party fundraiser hosts through necessary steps to complete successful fundraisers.
- Coordinating post-event activities, including payment follow-ups, event evaluations, stewardship, and working closely with the Director of Development.
- Managing event committees, providing regular communications to motivate and inspire volunteers.
Qualifications:
- Keen interest in event planning
- Diploma or certificate in event management, hospitality, communications, and/or business administration preferred
- Excellent interpersonal skills, while demonstrating compassion and sensitivity to vulnerable populations
- Professional communication, both in written and verbal form, including in sensitive situations, while maintaining confidentiality
- Experience and comfort in managing interactions with varying personalities; uses sound judgement in escalating matters of concern
- Extremely detail oriented, organized, and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Technologically oriented; with training, must be able to utilize existing project management platform(s)
- High level of experience with computer applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat (using PDFs) and PowerPoint; must also have experience completing mail merges
- Experience working in health-related fields, in non-profits or with a senior population an asset
- Physically able to lift/carry moderate weight (~30lbs)
- Valid BC Driver’s License and access to a vehicle strongly preferred
