Manager, Education & Support Services
Are you a service manager who wants to make a real difference to people living with Parkinson’s disease, and their carepartners? Parkinson Society British Columbia (PSBC) is seeking a Manager of Education & Support Services to join our team.

Parkinson Society British Columbia is a non-profit organization that is supported by donations from individuals, society members, estates, foundations, corporations, and the dedicated efforts of volunteers.
We believe that every person touched by Parkinson’s deserves to know that they are not alone in their journey. Our mission is to empower the Parkinson’s community in British Columbia by providing resources and services to enable self-management, self-reliance, and self-advocacy. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff offer up-to-date information, referrals, educational events, counselling support, groups, and exercise resources. We fund research to advance the understanding and treatment of Parkinson’s, as well as allied health positions across the province.

The position
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this is a full-time position in the Lower Mainland of BC. PSBC’s staff primarily work from home, with in-office work at our modern, downtown Vancouver office as required. The successful candidate must also be available to travel to various education events, and for some occasional weekend work.
We are looking for demonstrable experience in delivering and managing education and support services, as well as planning and delivering education events. Ideally, you are someone with experience and knowledge of how to provide support to people with chronic illness.
Responsibilities of the Manager of Education & Support Services
- Oversight of the planning, delivery and evaluation of education and support services.
- Provides direction, support and professional development to education and support service staff.
- Monitors program quality and standards, including the ethical and legal aspects of professional practice.
- Provides presentations to community groups and health care providers.
- Provides direct support to clients and groups as required.
- Identifies annual operational goals for education and support services, in alignment with the strategic direction of the organization.
- Represents PSBC in external projects, committees, and events as needed.
- Leads the planning, delivery and evaluation of PSBC’s educational conferences and other events.
- Stays informed on current developments in Parkinson’s research and practice in order to locate relevant content for education events and other PSBC activities.
What we’re looking for
This position requires strong organizational and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate must consistently demonstrate the highest standards of professionalism, confidentiality, integrity, and sensitivity. Specifically, we are looking for someone with:
- Post-secondary education in health, social services, not-for-profit management or related field, or a combination of education and experience required.
- Post-graduate qualifications in social work, counselling or non-profit management preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years working in service delivery in a not-for-profit environment or related health or social service field, including a minimum of 3 years at a managerial level.
- Experience working with individuals and support groups.
- Experience planning and delivering education events
- In depth understanding of program development and delivery within the not- for-profit sector
- Knowledge of the impact of chronic disease on individuals and families.
- Knowledge and understanding of Parkinson’s disease.
- Familiarity working with the BC health care system is an asset.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively and lead a small, multi-disciplinary team.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- The ability to multitask and manage competing deadlines.
- Strong group facilitation skills.
- Strong presentation skills.
