Balance Exercise Series

Join PSBC’s Shelly Yu, physiotherapist, in a 7-session low-impact balance exercise class. The class will focus on lower extremity strength and agility-type activities required for falls prevention, such as multidirectional stepping, weight shifting and turning. As this is a balance class, all exercises will be done in standing to simulate real-life scenarios. Please ensure safety by holding on to sturdy furniture/aids as needed, as well as having a loved one nearby for additional support. No special equipment is needed for the class; however we may use household objects as targets or obstacles to step over/around. The instructor will relay this information at the beginning of each class. Please note there is no class on August 3rd as it is a statutory holiday.

Please note: Participation in the exercise programs listed below will be done at your own risk within your home. Please ensure you have the space needed to follow the exercises and that there are no obstacles or barriers in your way. The classes are meant for general information and usage only. They are not intended for and should not replace individualized medical advice and/or individualized assessments given to you by a healthcare professional. Please seek assessments/advice from an appropriate healthcare professional as needed. Parkinson Society BC (PSBC), and the instructors of the programs below, will not be held liable for accidents or incidents that may occur in your home. By participating in the exercise programs listed below, you are recognizing that risk of illness and/or injury may be inherent in any movement or exercise class and are participating with the express agreement of, and understanding that the program instructors, and Parkinson Society BC and its directors, officers, employees, partners, and agents are hereby released from any and all claims, costs, liabilities, expenses, or judgements associated with these exercise for Parkinson’s programs.
