Aviva Community Fund‘s voting round is now open! Parkinson Society British Columbia (PSBC) hopes to bring Aware in Care kits to British Columbians with Parkinson’s disease (PD). This project has been selected to be assessed by the public through voting. If it is one of the thirty most popular projects, PSBC will be considered for up to $50,000 worth of funding by a panel of judges. The voting round is open between October 11 through October 28 and Grand Prize Winners will be announced on December 6.
Aware in Care kits were first produced by National Parkinson Foundation in the United States. Research has found that individuals with PD are hospitalized 50% more frequently than their peers without PD. Additionally, complications can arise due to difficulties communicating Parkinson’s specific needs with hospital staff. The Aware in Care kit is large enough for various medications and comes with a hospital action plan, Parkinson’s disease ID bracelet, plus additional tools to help communicate various health-related needs.
