Parkinson Society BC (PSBC) is committed to providing comprehensive support to those affected by Parkinson’s disease, recognizing the complexities and challenges of the journey for both the individuals diagnosed and their loved ones. With a focus on holistic care, PSBC’s Counselling & Health Navigation team, featuring a registered clinical counsellor and registered social worker, offers tailored services across three pathways—Short-Term Psychotherapy, Psychoeducation, and Healthcare Navigation—to meet the emotional, educational, and practical healthcare needs of the Parkinson’s community. These services are available free of charge, ensuring accessibility for all.
Short-Term Psychotherapy offers a confidential space for individuals and their families to address the emotional impacts of Parkinson’s, including anxiety, depression, and grief. Through evidence-based therapies and a client-centered approach, our team empowers clients to build resilience and enhance their emotional well-being.
Psychoeducation serves as a crucial tool in understanding Parkinson’s disease, its progression, and how to manage daily life effectively. This pathway provides essential knowledge on treatment options and coping strategies, equipping individuals with the information they need to navigate the disease.
Healthcare Navigation is designed to simplify the healthcare journey for those affected by Parkinson’s. Our team provides personalized support, from navigating the healthcare system to connecting with community resources and facilitating applications for disability benefits, alleviating the stress and confusion that can accompany such processes.
Access to these specialized services is straightforward for individuals and families in BC affected by Parkinson’s disease. Our staff is ready to assess your unique needs to guide you to the most suitable support pathway(s).
