Parkinson Society British Columbia (PSBC) recognizes April as Parkinson’s Awareness Month with the launch of the “This is Parkinson’s disease” campaign. The campaign aims to reshape public understanding of the disease. Parkinson’s disease (PD) affects over 12,500 British Columbians from diverse backgrounds and is not limited to the elderly. The campaign highlights real-life stories from individuals across the province to emphasize that PD does not discriminate by age, gender, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. PSBC believes that the diversity of the Parkinson’s community strengthens the collective experience and offers support to those affected. CEO Jean Blake emphasizes that the unique experiences of each individual unite the community in understanding and facing Parkinson’s together.
