On Thursday, October 15, SPACE, a nonprofit creating more inclusive and accessible spaces for people who stutter, will be holding story-recording sessions with members of the Parkinson’s community for the Library of Dysfluent Voices, in collaboration with Parkinson Society British Columbia (PSBC).

The Library is an open-access, growing collection of recordings from people around the world who experience speech and communication dysfluencies. There are now more than 140 recordings from 20 countries, in 16 different languages.

The idea behind the Library is simple: to create a space where people can share their voice and story in their own way. If you’ve ever thought about sharing something about your experience, your voice, or just something you’d like other people to hear, we invite you to contribute. There’s no particular story you need to tell and no “right” way to do it.

Participants who are interested in sharing their story and joining the Library can sign up for a 30-minute slot to do a voice recording with members of the SPACE team, Luke and Aidan, as well as PSBC staff. Recording sessions will take place at the Parkinson Society BC office, located at 1021 West Hastings St, 9th Floor, Vancouver, BC V6E 0C3.

During your session, you will have as much time as you need to speak. Luke, Aidan, and PSBC staff will be there to give you space, listen to you, and make sure you feel safe and comfortable during the process. We’d be honoured to hear your story.
