Why I’m Riding
On September 6, I’ll cycle 122 km from Vancouver to Whistler in the Whistler Gran Fondo. This year, I’m joined by colleagues from BC Building Science Ltd. and other personal connections, forming a new team dedicated to supporting Parkinson Society British Columbia (PSBC).
My motivation is deeply personal. In October 2020, my family and I lost my father, Gordon, to Parkinson’s disease after a 25-year journey. Diagnosed in his early 50s, he faced each day with courage and refused to let the disease define him. He attended support groups, did daily vocal and physical exercises, and stayed active for as long as he could.
Some of my best childhood memories are biking with my dad around Squamish. Now, as I approach my 50th birthday, I feel closest to him when I’m on my bike.
To mark five years since his passing and my milestone birthday, I’m riding to honour his spirit and support the 17,500 people living with Parkinson’s disease in BC. When I invited my teammates to choose their charities, they all chose to support PSBC alongside me.
Our goal is $18,000 — a tribute to October 18, the day we lost my dad. Please help us honour his legacy and support the Parkinson’s community in BC. Thank you.
