Caregiver Webinar Series

Parkinson Society British Columbia recognizes that Parkinson’s disease affects not only those diagnosed but also their families and friends. This webinar series is designed to support caregivers by offering valuable information and tools to help manage the challenges and stress associated with caregiving.

We invite all caregivers to join this series and encourage participants to bring their questions, as each session will include time for Q&A and discussion.

Please note that separate registration is required for each session.


Taking Care of Yourself: Self-Compassion for Caregivers - Stacey Dawes, caregiver engagement lead

Family caregiving can arise unexpectedly or in response to a crisis, often during busy and demanding times. Balancing caregiving responsibilities can be both a deeply rewarding experience and a source of emotional and physical strain. In this webinar, we will explore the importance of support in your caregiver role, reflect on your current level of self-care, and discuss the practice of self-compassion.

We will also examine how to build and utilize support networks and understand the dimensions of resilience. Additionally, Family Caregivers of British Columbia will share valuable resources to assist caregivers in their journey, helping you navigate the challenges of caregiving while prioritizing your well-being.

Navigating Caregiving as a Couple: Real-Life Experiences and Strategies - Stan Shabason, Ahava Shira, and Michelle Heath

Join us for this interactive Q&A session featuring a panel of couples actively engaged in caregiving, facilitated by Parkinson Society British Columbia’s social worker, Corrina Masson. This discussion will explore how couples manage the complexities of caregiving while maintaining their relationships and individual well-being. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear firsthand about strategies for navigating dual roles and can ask questions about balancing caregiving responsibilities with a shared life.

Addressing Caregiver Needs: Burden, Burnout, and Support for Wellbeing - Tricia Wallace, counsellor

This webinar, led by Parkinson Society British Columbia’s counsellor Tricia Wallace, will focus on an often-overlooked aspect of caregiving: the caregiver's own mental and emotional health. We will explore the signs of burnout, the impact of caregiving on personal identity and relationships, and effective strategies for managing grief and emotional stress. By addressing these critical areas, the session aims to equip caregivers with practical tools and support to maintain their well-being and resilience throughout their caregiving journey.
