SUMMARY:Rock Steady Boxing
DESCRIPTION:Are you ready…to Rock Steady? Join Doug Pickard\, a Rock Steady Boxing (RSB) Affiliate Owner\, who will lead a six-week fitness boxing class for Parkinson’s. \nPersons living with Parkinson’s will experience a total workout for both their mind and body as it incorporates cardio\, strength\, balance\, hand-eye coordination\, and speed! Common non-motor symptoms such as anxiety and depression may also be alleviated through boxing and exercise. \nRock Steady Boxing is a fitness program dedicated to supporting people with Parkinson’s. In an RSB class\, exercises are largely adapted from boxing drills. Boxers condition for optimal agility\, speed\, muscular endurance\, accuracy\, hand-eye coordination\, footwork\, and overall strength. Exercises vary in purpose and form\, but share one common trait: they are rigorous and intended to extend the perceived capabilities of the participant. \nNo previous boxing experience is required. All you will need is: \n\na water bottle to drink from\na set of dumbbells or water bottles filled with water\na short wooden dowel (a broomstick will do!)\n\n\nBesides some basic boxing drills\, Doug incorporates balance exercises\, vocal exercises\, strength training\, and lots of stretching. \n\n\n\n\nParkinson Society BC appreciates all gifts\, as they allow us to continue to offer programs people with Parkinson’s disease and their carepartners rely on. DESCRIPTION:This program harnesses the power of the brain\, breath\, and emotion to reclaim voices. Joani Bye will engage participants in uplifting sessions of SongShine\, a program using singing\, breath work\, diction\, articulation\, and creative imagination exercises to strengthen voices affected by Parkinson’s or other neurological challenges. SongShine’s goal is to help you communicate more easily and clearly while facilitating a sense of community\, camaraderie\, and confidence in the process! \n\nJoin Joani for holistic\, fun\, and immersive sessions that will include the following: \n\nSinging favourite songs\nRelaxation\nBreathing exercises\nTongue exercises (for articulation and swallowing)\nLinguistic and vocal instruction\nImagination exercises\n\nWe welcome all individuals with Parkinson’s to this series\, as well as their spouses and/or carepartners\, as they may benefit from learning more about the disease to assist in supporting their loved ones. \n\n\n\n\n\nParkinson Society BC appreciates all gifts\, as they allow us to continue to offer programs people with Parkinson’s disease and their carepartners rely on. The event is designed for people at every stage in their journey with Parkinson’s.     \nHosted by Parkinson Canada\, Parkinson’s IQ + You is an event series that was established by The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research with the goal of bringing education and empowerment to the Parkinson’s community. DESCRIPTION:Parkinson Society British Columbia recognizes that Parkinson’s disease affects not only those diagnosed but also their families and friends. This webinar series is designed to support caregivers by offering valuable information and tools to help manage the challenges and stress associated with caregiving. \nWe invite all caregivers to join this series and encourage participants to bring their questions\, as each session will include time for Q&A and discussion. \nPlease note that separate registration is required for each session. \nSession 3: Addressing Caregiver Needs: Burden\, Burnout\, and Support for Wellbeing – Tricia Wallace\, counsellor \nThis webinar\, led by Parkinson Society British Columbia’s counsellor Tricia Wallace\, will focus on an often-overlooked aspect of caregiving: the caregiver’s own mental and emotional health. We will explore the signs of burnout\, the impact of caregiving on personal identity and relationships\, and effective strategies for managing grief and emotional stress.
