Additionally\, the stressors and complex emotions that caregivers experience can affect the caregiver’s emotional health. Joani Bye will engage participants in uplifting sessions of SongShine\, a program using singing\, breath work\, diction\, articulation\, and creative imagination exercises to strengthen voices affected by Parkinson’s or other neurological challenges. SongShine’s goal is to help you communicate more easily and clearly while facilitating a sense of community\, camaraderie\, and confidence in the process! \nJoin Joani for holistic\, fun\, and immersive sessions that will include the following: \n\n\n\nSinging favourite songs\nRelaxation\nBreathing exercises\n\n\n\n\nTongue exercises (for articulation and swallowing)\nLinguistic and vocal instruction\nImagination exercises\n\nWe welcome all individuals with Parkinson’s to this series\, as well as their spouses and/or carepartners\, as they may benefit from learning more about the disease to assist in supporting their loved ones. This is a newly launched 12-week series offered once per year. Registration is on a rolling basis\, with a capacity limit of 25 participants. A waitlist will begin once registration exceeds this limit. DESCRIPTION:Dates: February 17\, 24\, and March 3\, 10\, & 17 \nVoice Aerobics®: Whole-Body Approach to Voice Practice \nVoice Aerobics® is a 50-minute class which couples voice practice with movement. It was developed as a 3-part program with focus on Posture\, Breathing\, and Voice. During each session of this 5-week series\, Mary will focus on different aspects of speech production and interject some swallowing exercises. Time will be available at the conclusion of each class to respond to questions regarding motor speech and swallowing symptoms associated with Parkinson’s disease. This class is appropriate for anyone with Parkinson’s or related diagnosis\, and all exercises can be done seated. \nInstructor:\nMary Spremulli\, MA\, CCC-SLP has been a healthcare provider for over 30 years\, and currently holds a nursing license in Florida and Speech Language Pathology license in Florida\, Ohio\, and North Carolina. DESCRIPTION:Dates: October 7\, 14\, 21\, 28\, and November 4 & 11 \nMime Over Mind is a therapeutic program that promotes mindfulness\, movement\, and self-expression for people living with Parkinson’s disease. Drawing from the art of mime\, the program led by Barbara Salsberg uses imaginative physical techniques to support both motor and emotional well-being. \nWhy Mime?Mime is playful\, accessible\, and requires no equipment\, making it easy to do anytime\, anywhere. It’s adaptable for all abilities and offers a joyful way to stay active\, manage symptoms\, and boost quality of life. \nHow It WorksThe program strengthens the brain-body connection by engaging fine and gross motor skills\, visualization\, and motor memory. Participants learn core mime techniques to create the illusion of interacting with invisible objects. All exercises can be performed while seated\, making this class accessible to everyone. \nInstructor: \nMary Spremulli\, MA\, CCC-SLP has been a healthcare provider for over 30 years\, and currently holds a nursing license in Florida and Speech-Language Pathology license in Florida\, Ohio\, and North Carolina. DESCRIPTION:Feel like your voice isn’t loud enough? Tired of repeating yourself in conversation? It’s time to Get Loud with Erin Tschopp! Join us for a six-session\, progressive voice group that focuses on maintaining and improving your vocal loudness. Each class builds on skills learned in the previous session. Please note that there will be a break in the series during the week of October 4th. \nThis series will be led by registered speech-language pathologist\, Erin Tschopp who brings 17 years of expertise in speech\, language\, voice\, and swallowing disorders. Her passion for voice therapy for people with Parkinson’s developed during her time at Burnaby Hospital. Trained in LSVT Loud since 2007\, Erin utilizes this evidence-based approach in her practice. In 2023\, she transitioned from her role as Clinical Practice Leader at Burnaby Hospital to start her private practice\, North Shore Speech and Language. She continues to support adults with communication and swallowing impairments both in-home and virtually. Erin brings warmth\, encouragement\, and humor to her sessions\, always focusing on the goals most important to her clients. \nIMPORTANT: To participate\, registrants must complete the self-assessment questionnaire below for pre-screening by the facilitator\, Erin Tschopp.Once the questionnaire has been reviewed\, you’ll receive an email with the link to join the sessions.
